In every learning environment, unseen dynamics of power, culture and gender influence who speaks — and who is heard. Led by Vikki Mooney from Durham University Business School, this interactive session explored why some voices dominate while others remain silent, and how hidden norms shape participation and learning.

Using a practical Cultural Intelligence framework, Vikki shared actionable strategies to design and facilitate more balanced, inclusive spaces. These approaches strengthen responsible leadership development by ensuring that diversity is not just present, but actively engaged. The session reminded us that inclusion is not accidental, it is intentional, and it starts with educators who recognise and challenge systemic patterns.

Strategic Career Development for Responsible Leaders

Wednesday 18th February - 12:00-13:00

Career progression is rarely a straight path, and structural barriers often make it harder for some to advance. In this session, Dr Hema Viswambharan, Senior Research Fellow and Career Navigator Lead Coach at the University of Leeds, guided participants through practical strategies to navigate these challenges.

From mentoring and networking to protecting your time, Hema emphasised the importance of shaping your career intentionally. The discussion highlighted why hidden norms and systemic challenges matter, and how turning obstacles into opportunities can lead to more equitable leadership development. Participants left with real stories, actionable advice, and one clear step to take in the next 6–12 months.

Why These Conversations Matter

Both sessions reflect PRME’s core values: equity, inclusion and leadership development for all. They remind us that responsible management education is not only about knowledge transfer, but about creating environments where diverse perspectives shape better decisions, in classrooms and boardrooms alike.
