The UN PRME Working Group on Climate Change and the Environment is seeking a new Communications Lead (Website) and a new Communication Lead (Newsletter), an exciting opportunity for someone ready to contribute to global climate action, elevate their professional profile, and help shape sustainable futures through education and advocacy.
This role is ideal for someone with a passion for environmental communication, sustainability, and collaborative leadership.
As Communications Lead, you’ll help manage the Working Group’s website, share key updates, and disseminate news and research progress to members across the globe. It’s a chance to amplify stories of hope, innovation, and impact from the frontlines of climate literacy and action.
You will join our existing Communication Lead (Newsletter) and work as a team. You can choose to focus on co-creating the newsletter or to focus on our website.
Why Get Involved?
1. Amplify Positive Change Be at the heart of a global movement that’s catalyzing climate action across higher education. You’ll be the voice sharing inspiring innovations and leading communication for mentoring initiatives and action training sessions already active in regions like the Middle East.
2. Enhance Your Scholarly and Professional Profile This is more than just a service role. It's a legitimate avenue for demonstrating:
AACSB Scholarly Activity through civic and professional engagement
Internal Evidence for Academic Promotion under engagement and leadership categories
Advance HE Fellowship or Senior Fellowship
A track record of external collaboration and international visibility
3. Connect with a Global Network The PRME community is rich with academics, practitioners, and thought leaders from institutions worldwide. As Communications Lead, you’ll interact with colleagues involved in mentoring, action research, and special initiatives such as the START Conference in Copenhagen and the Virtual Research Retreat on climate solutions.
4. Support Transformational Learning From promoting the Climate Coaching Alliance’s “Shaping Tomorrow” playbook to curating updates on cutting-edge tools for measuring climate action in universities, your work will help educators and students align with SDG 13—Climate Action—and beyond.
5. Be Part of Something Bigger UN PRME’s mission is to embed sustainability in management education. This role allows you to contribute meaningfully to that mission, by communicating progress, sharing success stories, and inspiring collective action.
Practical Outcomes
This position provides tangible benefits for academics and professionals alike:
Bolster your CV with global engagement experience
Fulfil criteria for external service in academic reviews
Lead communications strategy and digital content aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
Receive international recognition for climate-related scholarly leadership
If you are motivated to make a meaningful contribution, help build bridges between climate knowledge and action, and grow your own professional network within a globally recognised initiative, this is your opportunity.
Please note that these roles are not paid, but exciting volunteering opportunities. If you choose to focus on the newsletter, we would expect you to be responsible for putting information together bimonthly (the newsletter is issued every month but the editors take turns). If you would like to focus on the website, we would appreciate if you have a few days this summer to update our website and then a few hours per month to keep the website active and promote its content.
