Leading environmentalist Jonathon Porritt CBE, Co-Founder of Forum for the Future and Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, appeared at the University of Winchester on 9 October 2007. The lecture Low-carbon, Sustainable Living: Just How Hard Will It Be? highlighted the increasing environmental crisis and current recognition that something must be done to provide a sustainable future. Jonathon Porritt explored the difficulties politicians and the Civil Service face in moving from more traditional, short-term goals to a more long-term vision. Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC) is located in our Research and Knowledge Exchange offices. WinACC was formed in autumn 2007 as a coalition of organisations and citizens seeking to engage every household and every organisation in Winchester district in meeting the challenge of climate change and realising the benefits of low carbon living.
