PRME London & SE Local Network Seminar:
Women’s leadership opportunities after the pandemic
Date: Thursday 12 May 3-4pm Location: Online
Registration: Please register via Eventbrite here
Speaker: Dr Miriam Marra (m.marra@icmacentre.ac.uk) Speaker Profile: https://www.icmacentre.ac.uk/people/miriam-marra
PRME shows the significance of the sustainable development goals as a way to inspire management education which develops responsible graduates. Gender and equality related themes are expressed in core SDGs. It is useful to reflect on how COVID-19 has been a turning point for most professional women in re-thinking the fact that they may not go too far counting only on the outsource of domestic work or adopting some ‘parallel lives’ strategy in the way they organise and conduct their professional life.
This webinar will examine women's leadership opportunities which arise after the COVID-19 crisis in terms of:
- New sectors where women can lead (for instance, those closely related to sustainability and flexible technologies) and
- Ways to reshape leadership practice towards an empathetic leadership, which pay attention to real world and work conditions and to how women can make a difference for their own career progression and others’ involved by shifting core values of the workplace in the post COVID-19 world.
Chapter 10th Anniversary Planning
A big thank-you from the Steering Committee to the colleagues from University of Winchester, Arden University, Middlesex University, University of Dundee and the University of Hull who responded to our recent invitation to meet and propose projects to mark our 10th Anniversary Year in 2023. The Committee will consider their very creative student, colleague and business-facing proposals shortly and then aim to recruit members more widely into our anniversary planning team.
PRME Virtual SIP (Sharing Information on Progress) Writing Retreat
Every two years every PRME signatory is expected to write and share a SIP report, charting their progress towards integration of the six Principles. Much appreciation to organisers Laura Steele (Queen’s University, Belfast) and Alec Wersun (Glasgow Caledonian) for running an invaluable, good practice sharing workshop on 15th March for more than 25 participants from the Chapter and beyond. Thanks also to Caroline Aggestam Pontoppidan, Associate Professor and Academic Director of PRME, and Martiina Srkoc, Head of Section UNGC PRME Secretariat, for sharing their experiences of SIP writing at Copenhagen Business School. Further events, including a 'SIP Peer Review Session' and 'SIP Writing Retreat on Increasing Accessibility and Demonstrating Impact' are in development. If anyone wants access to any of the resources shared at or after the meeting, feel free to contact Laura Steele on Laura.Steele@qub.ac.uk
The SIP of the Future
Globally, PRME has been reviewing the SIP process to ensure that it better supports organisational reflection, learning and impact measurement in the future. We are now at a point where the Chapter has been asked to consult members more widely on a set of proposed PRME-wide indicators that all members would be asked to report on. Watch out in early May for further news about how you can engage in this consultation.
PRME Global Forum – now online on 3 June
Initially the PRME Global Forum – the annual get together of the global PRME community – was planned to be an in-person event in New York in early June. Plans have now been updated to make this an online only event, thus enabling much wider member participation. The PRME global website does not yet fully reflect this change but will do so shortly.
Items for future news updates
If you have items that might be of interest to our PRME readership, we would be happy to consider including them in these regular news updates. We are also trying to reduce the number of separate mailouts by issuing more regular news roundups like the one above.
If you would like us to include items in future news updates, please send them to our Secretariat - PRME_UKI@gcu.ac.uk
That’s all for now – best wishes from the UK and Ireland Chapter Steering Committee
